Big Sand Cay Anchorage

21° 11.5′ N · 71° 15.1′ W · approximate

An uninhabited cay 7 miles south of Salt Cay with one of the finest beaches in the country along its long, sheltered west side — the last (or first) stop on the Turks Bank before the run to Hispaniola.

Practical

Coordinate approximate: just off the west beach (Visit TCI marker 21.19197, -71.24851). Visit TCI calls the lee a favoured cruising-yacht mooring spot; noforeignland reviewers report 3–6 m and that swell can wrap around and make it rolly. Tern and noddy nesting ground; nurse sharks in summer. Snorkel the east side only in calm weather. Not a port of entry.
