Salt Cay Anchorage (Deane's Dock)
21° 19.9′ N · 71° 13.1′ W · approximate
Anchor off the sheltered west coast of tiny Salt Cay, off Balfour Town and Deane's Dock — an island time forgot, with 108 people, no paved roads, donkeys and whales offshore in winter.
Practical
Coordinate approximate: about 0.2 nm west of Deane's Dock. Visit TCI calls the west coast near Deane's Dock the best anchoring near the island because it's sheltered from the trades; the harbour itself is small with little room for error, so all but the smallest boats should stay outside. Not a port of entry — clear in at Grand Turk first. Fuel is limited and expensive; only basic supplies. Exposed in westerlies and northerly swell.
Best for
Whale-season base in the Turks Islands
Season
Jan–Apr for whales; settled easterlies
