Royal Island estate ruins
25° 31.1′ N · 76° 50.7′ W · approximate
The stone ruins of an old estate house above Royal Island's harbour, with collapsed roofs, trees growing through the walls, bats, and an old sour-orange and fruit grove.
Practical
Coordinate approx: placed on the island just north-west of the harbour anchorage; the ruin site is not mapped. Reached from the crumbling concrete pier on the harbour shore and a weathered concrete stair up through thick bush (ActiveCaptain 2016, Life is Grand 2025). Royal Island is private, with a small resort at its south-west end and caretakers; one 2010 reviewer was turned away by security, while others (2012, 2017, 2025) walked freely or were given permission by the island manager. Ask anyone you see, and leave if asked. A 2025 visitor identified a highly toxic 'poisonberry' bush on the path: do not eat unknown berries. The pier has sharp edges; fender the dinghy.
