Port Howe reefs and Big Winding Bay
24° 8.9′ N · 75° 20.1′ W · approximate
The clear south-coast reefs between Port Howe and Columbus Point, where the Greenwood dive shop runs boat snorkel trips to a sea-cave full of bats with a picnic lunch on the beach at Big Winding Bay.
Practical
Coordinate approx: placed inside the reef about 0.5 nm east of the ActiveCaptain Howe Bay anchorage (the GeoNames Winding Bay point fell on land). Coordinate is the GeoNames point for Winding Bay, which has only 0.05-degree resolution; the reefs sit inside the barrier off Howe Bay and Winding Bay. From the Howe Bay anchorage you can snorkel the clear water nearby (ActiveCaptain). For the bat cave, book the guided trip through the Greenwood dive shop ((242) 342-3053), which supplies gear. Go on calm days; surge builds on these reefs whenever the wind is E-S.
Best for
Guided snorkel, bat cave and beach picnic
Season
