Columbus Point

24° 8.1′ N · 75° 17.9′ W

The south-east tip of Cat Island, where the Atlantic meets the island's southern shore. Its name nods to the local tradition that Columbus first landed on Cat Island.

Practical

Coordinate is the GeoNames position for Columbus Point (Colomb Pointe). It is reached overland by rough roads from Port Howe; ask locally about access. From seaward, give the point a wide berth (see the Columbus Point rounding passage). Wikipedia records the local claim that Cat Island, not San Salvador, was Columbus's first landfall.
