Columbus Point wall dive
24° 7.8′ N · 75° 17.4′ W · approximate
An advanced wall off Cat Island's south-east tip where the reef plunges into deep water and strong currents bring in pelagics: reef and hammerhead sharks, oceanic whitetips in season, eagle rays and big tuna.
Practical
Coordinate approx: set about 0.5 nm offshore of the GeoNames Columbus Point land point so it falls on the water; the wall itself was not located in a source. Coordinate is the GeoNames point for Columbus Point itself; the wall lies offshore of it. Dive Planner Pro rates it advanced with tricky currents and reports 18-30 m visibility. Greenwood's dive operator says the island has over 20 miles of wall running along the southern tip from Columbus Point to Devil's Point, with the wall starting at about 40 ft. Go only with the Greenwood dive centre's boat; do not attempt it from a cruising dinghy, as the point is exposed to Atlantic swell.
