Mayaguana reefs and walls
22° 20.1′ N · 73° 1.2′ W · approximate
Mayaguana is ringed by little-visited reef: shallow coral heads and sand flats inside Abraham's Bay for snorkelling, and walls, drop-offs and a cave system at roughly 45-60 ft offshore for divers.
Practical
Approximate coordinate placed on the inner side of the Abraham's Bay barrier reef between the two Waterway Guide anchorages (not a named dive site). Bahamas.com describes offshore reefs in the 45-60 ft range with walls, drop-offs and caves; Noonsite lists pristine reefs and shipwrecks. There is no dive operator on the island - self-sufficient divers only, with no chamber nearby. Inside the bay, the coral heads that make navigation tricky are the snorkel sites; go at slack water in calm conditions and leave someone in the dinghy.
Best for
Self-sufficient snorkelling and diving with nobody else around
