Abraham's Bay Reef Anchorage West (Low Point Pass)
22° 20.0′ N · 73° 2.5′ W
The first spot inside the barrier reef after the wide western cut into Abraham's Bay: a big turquoise sheet of sand behind the reef where you can drop the hook within minutes of leaving the ocean, the classic overnight stop between the Plana Cays and Provo or the Dominican Republic.
Practical
Waterway Guide position 22°19.961'N 73°02.546'W, at least 6 ft. Holding good in sand with scattered coral heads; some boats report dragging before the anchor bit, so dive or back down hard. The reef knocks down the sea but you still move: reviewers rate it good for NW through E winds and a little bumpier than the east anchorage; at high tide waves come over the reef, and a gap in the reef admits swell farther in, so stay in the west pocket unless it is settled. Exposed to anything with south in it. Enter and leave in daylight with good light (coral heads close to the surface near the cut). Town is a 2-mile-plus dinghy ride east across shoal water - do not attempt it at low tide; wait for a rising tide or move to the east anchorage. Bahamian SIM data reported good here.
Best for
Quick, easy overnight stop inside the reef on passage
Season
Nov–May in NW–E winds; exposed S–SW
