Gun Point fort ruins (French Wells)
22° 41.2′ N · 74° 16.8′ W · approximate
The remains of a British fort and an old cannon near the shore at the approach to French Wells, built to curb the French pirates who used the sheltered channel between Long Cay and Crooked Island as a hideout to raid ships in the Crooked Island Passage.
Practical
Position approximate: the Bahamas tourism board says the ruins are visible near the shoreline as you approach French Wells but its listed coordinates are wrong (they point to Landrail Point), so this entry is placed at the French Wells channel. Look for them from the dinghy; land only where the shore is clear of mangrove and private property.
