Cold fronts and anchorage choice (Crooked/Acklins)
22° 41.1′ N · 74° 16.5′ W · approximate
Nearly every anchorage in the group faces west, so each winter cold front, with wind clocking from south through west to north, dictates where you can safely be: plan the move a day before the front arrives.
Practical
Position approximate (French Wells). From the sources: Landrail Point is open north to south-west and rolly in almost any wind (Noonsite); French Wells, as far in as draft allows, is the best all-weather choice (Waterway Guide); Long Cay East hides from westerlies; Mudian Harbour (Castle Island) has excellent protection from northerlies; Attwood Harbour is open to the north; Crooked Island Marina is the secure option. A cruiser at Landrail Point in January 2015 logged SE gusts over 30 knots ahead of a front. Get forecasts by satellite where cell data fails.
