French Wells mangrove creek
22° 41.4′ N · 74° 17.1′ W · approximate
The swampy delta at French Wells opens into an extensive mangrove system rich in bird life, with turtles and rays in the clear channels; explore by dinghy or kayak from the anchorage.
Practical
Position approximate: the creek mouth between French Wells North (Waterway Guide) and the inner anchorage, which Waterway Guide describes as 'the mouth of the mangrove, easily accessible by dinghy'. Go on a rising tide and watch the strong current in the channel; carry an oar, water and bug spray. Do not disturb nesting birds or wade onto the flats in mangrove areas.
