Gordon's Beach to South Point shelling walk
22° 52.0′ N · 74° 51.8′ W · approximate
A 1.5-mile walk along the sand from Gordon's to South Point, the southern tip of Long Island, with some of the island's best shelling.
Practical
Position is approximate, at the middle of Gordon's Beach (see that entry). The Beaches of Long Island guide (2018) says to allow at least three hours for the round trip. There is no shade and no water beyond the Gordon's Beach Bar, so start early, carry water and sun protection, and watch the tide on the rocky sections. Do not take live shells. Inland, tower ruins on a high point are marked on the nautical chart, but the guide could not find a path to them.
Best for
A long shelling walk at the island's southern tip
