Gordon's Beach

22° 52.0′ N · 74° 51.8′ W · approximate

Around two miles of talcum-white sand and shallow, many-hued water at Gordon's, the southernmost settlement on Long Island, rated by many as the island's finest beach on either side.

Practical

Position is approximate: a point on the OpenStreetMap Caribbean-side shoreline about half a mile south of the Gordon's Beach Bar & Grill, near the middle of the beach. By road, drive to the end of the Queen's Highway and turn right at the stop sign (the Beaches of Long Island guide, 2018). By boat, use the Gordon's Beach Anchorage entry. The guide warns that sharks can be numerous because commercial fishermen release chum on the way back to port, so keep swims short and avoid dusk. Stella Maris notes good shelling and sometimes wild flamingos. A 1.5-mile walk south reaches South Point (see the walk entry). No facilities except the beach bar, whose hours are irregular.
