Lochabar Beach (south of Clarence Town)

23° 4.1′ N · 74° 54.9′ W

A long, empty sweep of sand on Lochabar Bay between Clarence Town and Dunmore, divided by a rocky point into a smaller northern beach and a much larger southern section that almost nobody visits.

Practical

Position is the OpenStreetMap 'Lochabar Beach' node on Lochabar Bay. The Beaches of Long Island guide (2018): heading south from Clarence Town, pass Tommy's Tourist Inn and the health clinic, then take the next paved road left after a little under two miles (power line along it) to the north end, parking north of the house; a quarter mile further south, Ridge View Drive has a 'Beach Access' sign, but the path over the ridge was overgrown in 2017 (bring a machete). From Dunmore heading north, the southern-section road is about 0.9 miles and Ridge View Drive 1.4 miles. Dunmore beach lies just beyond the rocky point to the south. No facilities. A car trip, not a dinghy trip, from Clarence Town. Some locals use the name Lochabar for the blue-hole beach at Lochabar Point further north; see that entry.
