Clarence Town Harbour Anchorage

23° 6.2′ N · 74° 57.0′ W

The only real harbour on the Atlantic side of Long Island: a reef-sheltered bay in front of the island's capital, with Father Jerome's twin-towered churches on the hills and Flying Fish Marina on the shore. It is the jumping-off point for the Crooked-Acklins, the Turks and Caicos and the Caribbean.

Practical

Sandy bottom, good holding; uncomfortable in NE swell (noforeignland). A cable area crosses the bay east of Sandy Point; see the Clarence Town East entry. Land dinghies at the north side of the government dock (Flying Fish does not accept cruiser dinghies as of April 2025). Provisions in town are thin: Erica's Bakery (fresh bread, limited canned goods) and a small True Value grocery about a 15-minute walk south (older report). Water at Flying Fish; trash barrels on the government dock; nearest public laundry in Hamilton's. Bull and reef sharks patrol the harbour, attracted by fish cleaning at the marina; do not swim near the marina. Long-range WiFi can pick up GEMS.

Best for

The Atlantic-side base for Dean's Blue Hole and passages south-east

Season
