Columbus Landfall Monument (Long Bay, San Salvador)
24° 0.8′ N · 74° 31.6′ W
The white cross at Long Bay marking where Christopher Columbus is believed to have stepped ashore on October 12, 1492 - the most photographed spot on the island.
Practical
Position from the OSM-mapped cross in Landfall Park; Commons photo coordinates agree. Bahamas tourism: offshore, an underwater monument marks where the Pinta anchored; BNT says a commemorative plaque on the seafloor marks the anchorage inside West Coast Marine Park. The exact landfall is still disputed (Samana Cay and Cat Island are other candidates - Wikipedia). Dinghy landing on Long Bay beach in settled easterlies, or by road about 2.5 miles south of Cockburn Town.
