Grouper Gully (San Salvador)
24° 2.1′ N · 74° 32.0′ W · approximate
Friendly groupers and a curving wall cut by gullies and swim-throughs, six minutes from Riding Rock near Fernandez Bay.
Practical
Position is approximate: placed about 750 m offshore south of Cockburn Town, from 'six minutes from Riding Rock near Fernandez Bay' (Sail Abacos / Riding Rock). San Salvador's wall sites carry dive-operator moorings - Noonsite says to use one of the 50-plus mooring buoys rather than anchor when diving on your own. Most sites are on the lee (west and south) side, 10-20 minutes by boat from Riding Rock Marina, with the reef starting around 40 ft (Riding Rock). Remote island: dive conservatively. Ledges roll down to 120 ft at the south end; sharks, barracuda, stingrays and turtles are common.
Best for
Relaxed wall dive with lots of fish
