West Coast Marine Park (San Salvador)
24° 1.2′ N · 74° 32.1′ W · approximate
The national park protecting San Salvador's lee coast: more than 20 miles of vertical walls, 100-150 ft visibility, the Columbus anchorage, and nesting tropicbirds and shearwaters on French Bay's rocky shore.
Practical
BNT: walls begin as shallow as 40 ft; hawksbill turtles nest at Sandy Point; deep channels are a whale migration route, especially humpbacks; the park is under consideration for UNESCO World Heritage status. Park rules: no-take is assumed in BNT parks - take nothing and use moorings, never anchor on coral. Point placed off Long Bay (approx); the park covers the whole west coast.
