Calabash Bay bonefish flats
23° 39.7′ N · 75° 18.0′ W · approximate
The shallow flats and protected inner bay around Columbus Harbour and the north end are some of Long Island's best bonefish water, with schools tailing in 8 to 24 inches over sand. Stella Maris guides call the lee bays a fly-fisher's paradise.
Practical
Position is the OpenStreetMap 'Columbus Harbour' node, used to mark the protected north-end flats (the 'Columbus passage' in Stella Maris Resort's fishing notes, about 8 miles from that resort); flats also run along Adderley's and Glinton's bays. Guided half and full days run from the Stella Maris Marina (boats usually leave at 8 am) and from Cape Santa Maria Resort. Stella Maris lists flies (Gotcha, Clouser, size 2-4, tan/brown/orange) and rods (8 and 9 weight). A Bahamas fishing licence is needed for flats fishing; guides usually arrange it. Catch and release.
