White Cay Anchorage (Berry Islands)

25° 36.8′ N · 77° 44.0′ W

A scenic anchorage just inside the White Cay cut, ringed by White, Fowl, Little Gaulding, Saddleback and Devil's Cays, three clean beaches, and one of the few spots in the Berries with some shelter from the north and west.

Practical

ActiveCaptain position. Enter through the middle between White Cay and Devil's Cay and turn behind White Cay; read the water to anchor between Fowl, Little Gaulding, White and the Saddlebacks. Depths in the north are less than charted; elsewhere 8 ft or more (January 2019). Fair-weather anchorage: do not stay in heavy seas, as several boats have been lost on the rocks when anchors slipped, and do not anchor north of White Cay near Hoffman's. Noforeignland users report calm sandy holding, about 4.5 ft at low tide in places and noticeable current. A sunken ketch nearby shows only part of one mast (April 2024); the Chub Cay tour snorkels the reef and sunken sailboat at White Cay.
