South Mackie Shoal Anchorage (Great Bahama Bank)
25° 35.6′ N · 78° 43.0′ W
An anchorage in the open on the Great Bahama Bank, out of sight of land about 30 nm east of Gun Cay, where slower boats break the run from Bimini to the Berry Islands, Nassau or Andros.
Practical
Position from ActiveCaptain ('Mackie Shoal Anchorage'; a second spot, 'Mackie Ridge', is at 25.60664, -78.68003). Zero protection: fair weather only, and rollers build in any real wind (ActiveCaptain, Noforeignland). Holding generally good. Anchor well off the bank route so night freighter traffic between Florida and the Berry Islands / Nassau passes clear (Waterway Guide warns of night freighters on the bank). Show an anchor light. A 90 ft wreck is reported (position approximate) at about 25.6917, -78.6533.
Best for
