Healing Hole

25° 44.7′ N · 79° 15.9′ W · approximate

A natural pool at the end of winding mangrove tunnels where cool, mineral-rich fresh water wells up into the tidal creek: the islands' other 'fountain of youth', reached only by small boat.

Practical

Position is a rough placeholder in the mangrove lagoon east of Bailey Town; the exact hole was not verified, so go with a local guide or ask at the marinas rather than navigate to this point. Wikipedia describes it as a pool at the end of winding tunnels in a brackish mangrove swamp covering about 6 km of North Bimini's shoreline, fed by tidal flows of water high in calcium and magnesium. The mangroves are part of the North Bimini Marine Reserve, the only mangrove nursery habitat on the western edge of the Great Bahama Bank (Bimini Shark Lab): idle through, take nothing. Very shallow; go by dinghy or guided skiff near high water. Not to be confused with the Healing Hole Rum Bar at Resorts World.
