Ocean Cay (MSC Marine Reserve)

25° 25.5′ N · 79° 12.4′ W

A man-made island south of the Cat Cays, dredged in the late 1960s for aragonite sand mining and now MSC Cruises' private Ocean Cay Marine Reserve, with eight beaches and a lighthouse that puts on a nightly light show.

Practical

Position is the ActiveCaptain anchorage. Private: visiting yachts may not go ashore (ActiveCaptain). Approach from the north-west; good deep sand with some turtle grass on the north side and good protection from south swell. Some electronic charts are at least 300 ft off, showing you on the island when anchored 400 ft off: pilot visually. Metal debris from the mining days on the west side can foul anchors. The deep-draft cruise ship channel (40-50 ft) has large metal markers that move with storms. Island coordinates per Wikipedia 25 25'15"N 79 12'20"W.
