Honeymoon Harbour Beach (Gun Cay)

25° 35.2′ N · 79° 18.2′ W · approximate

The white-sand beach at the head of Honeymoon Harbour on the north end of Gun Cay, where you wade into knee-deep turquoise water and southern stingrays glide in to circle your feet. A classic day stop 9 miles south of Bimini, with the 1836 Gun Cay lighthouse in view.

Practical

Position approximate: the shore at the head of the cove, between ActiveCaptain's Honeymoon Harbor (25.58733, -79.30414) and Honeymoon Hbr East (25.58718, -79.30097) anchor points; approach by dinghy and read the water, as the cove shoals toward the beach. Anchor in the cove (see the Honeymoon Harbour (Gun Cay) anchorage entry), best in S to E winds. Stingrays come to people wading in from the beach or off the back of a boat; do not feed or grab them and shuffle your feet. Neal Watson's Bimini Scuba Center runs a Stingray Safari + Honeymoon Harbour trip from the Big Game Club, December through April, at $120 adult / $90 child plus 10% VAT (year not stated; verify locally). Day boats from Bimini crowd it on weekends. Gun Cay is privately owned and a 2024 ActiveCaptain review reports that going ashore to explore is no longer possible, so expect to stay on the wet sand and in the water; no facilities.
