Snake Cay Creek Dinghy Trail (East Abaco Creeks National Park)

26° 27.0′ N · 77° 3.0′ W

Pass in through the Snake Cay cut on a rising tide and head south toward Iron Cay through miles of mangroves, islets and gin-clear flats teeming with turtles, rays, conch, starfish and baby sharks - routinely called one of the best dinghy rides in the Bahamas.

Practical

Coordinate is the cut entrance (ActiveCaptain 'Snake Cay Inlet'). Enter on a rising tide and keep the outboard ready to tilt; under 2 ft at lower tides on the flats; the cut runs hard with stacked waves on the ebb. Kayaks are ideal. Part of East Abaco Creeks National Park (est. 2015, covering Snake Cay Creek, the Bight of Old Robinson and Cherokee Sound) - fishing as regulated by current law is allowed, but take only photos of the nursery habitat. ActiveCaptain community reports date from 2011-2019, before Hurricane Dorian (Category 5, Sept 1, 2019) hit Abaco; re-check bottom, markers and businesses locally.
