Hike· Powell Cay· Bahamas — North
Powell Cay trail and beach
26° 54.3′ N · 77° 28.7′ W · approximate
A short trail climbs from the north end of the anchorage beach to the top of the bluff for a panorama over the anchorage and the Sea of Abaco, and paths lead on to empty beaches on the east side.
Practical
Approximate position on the bluff at the north end of the beach, read off the OpenStreetMap coastline outline of Powell Cay. Watch for poisonwood on the trail (it raises a nasty rash). At low tide you can walk around the south point; shelling is good on the southern beaches. Powell Cay is home to a colony of roughly 20 white-tailed tropicbirds: keep clear of nesting holes in the bluffs. Land the dinghy on the anchorage beach.
Best for
Sunset view over the anchorage, shelling and tropicbird watching
