Cooper's Town
26° 52.1′ N · 77° 30.5′ W
A quiet waterfront village on the north coast of Great Abaco, facing Spanish and Powell Cays, settled by the Bootle family in the 1870s. It is the jumping-off village for Spanish Cay.
Practical
Coordinate from Wikipedia. Population 676 (2010). The early economy was pineapples and sponging, both held back by the lack of a natural harbour, which is why cruisers anchor off rather than tie up. ActiveCaptain (pre-Dorian): very limited services; a small convenience store and a BTC outlet for top-ups (no SIM cards, 2018); a roadside stand sold tomatoes and bananas; residents very welcoming; stray dogs on the streets. No bank (the nearest was at Treasure Cay).
