Snorkel· Moraine Cay· Bahamas — North
Moraine Cay beach and reef
27° 2.5′ N · 77° 46.1′ W · approximate
Shallow coral heads and reef around the islets on the north side of Moraine give some of the best easy snorkeling in the far north. The north-west beach is made for sunsets.
Practical
Approximate pin just north of the anchorage, by the rocks on the north side of the crescent beach that reviewers describe (derived from the ActiveCaptain anchorage positions; not surveyed). ActiveCaptain (2018): excellent snorkeling reef along the rocks on the north side of the crescent beach, with corals and plenty of fish; diving and snorkeling are also good on the north side of the island through the coral-head maze in settled weather. Snorkel only in calm conditions and watch the current. The cay is private and the rental houses looked deserted and overgrown (2018); stay below the high-water line unless invited. For the ocean-side reef see 'Moraine Cay ocean reef (coral canyons)'.
