Allans-Pensacola Cay Anchorage

26° 59.2′ N · 77° 41.1′ W

A favorite cruiser anchorage in the bight of a long, uninhabited cay on the north side of the Sea of Abaco. Calm water, harbor beaches, lobster and turtles, and a trail to the Atlantic and the famous signing trees.

Practical

ActiveCaptain position. Careful approach from the south-west of the opening; boats to about 6 ft draft are fine, though the deeper water is narrow, so allow for wind swing (a 7'3" boat anchored at the entrance, 2017). Good protection from north-west through north and east; rolly in south and west winds. Holding is variable (marl and sea grass): set the anchor deep and dive on it; several boats dragged in a 30-knot blow (2016). Room for 10+ boats. No-see-ums and insects can be fierce in calm weather (2016, 2017). Weak BTC signal, enough for weather. Explore Guineaman's Cay by dinghy. Pre-Dorian reports (2015-2019).
