Amberjack Reef

24° 42.0′ N · 76° 47.4′ W · approximate

A 50-ft reef that was for years a Bahamas shark-feed site, so the Caribbean reef sharks still show up out of habit, sharing the coral with nurse sharks, big grouper, garden eels swaying in the sand patches and horse-eye jacks in the blue.

Practical

50 ft, moderate current, best on slack. Sharks here are conditioned and may approach closely - no feeding, keep hands in, and keep your camera off your chest. Boat dive with no fixed mooring. Beginner-to-intermediate on a calm day. Arrange through a Nassau or Highbourne operator; there is no fill station south of Nassau until Staniel Cay.
