Highbourne Cut

24° 42.2′ N · 76° 49.0′ W · approximate

One of the better cuts in the Exumas - reasonably wide, reasonably deep and range-marked on the northern route - and the natural doorway between the bank and Exuma Sound for boats based at Highbourne.

Practical

Two navigable routes; the northern one carries range markers - line them up and hold the range. Transit at or near slack, and never on an ebb against a strong easterly, which stands the cut up into steep breaking seas. Good light and a lookout on the bow are standard practice. Rages here after a big Atlantic swell even in light wind.
