Whale Season and Whale-Strike Risk (St Lucia Channel)
14° 15.0′ N · 60° 55.8′ W · approximate
Whales use the channels between the islands. A Noonsite report records a whale holing a catamaran between Martinique and St Lucia, the third collision a harbour master knew of since December.
Practical
Coordinates are approximate, mid-channel. A Noonsite comment (February 2017) describes a whale passing under a catamaran in the Martinique-St Lucia channel and tearing the hull below the waterline. Keep a lookout, slow down if whales are seen, and carry a plan for a hull breach. Report sightings on the cruiser net.
