Sandy Island Oyster Bed Marine Protected Area (SIOBMPA) Fees
12° 29.1′ N · 61° 28.9′ W · approximate
Carriacou's marine protected area takes in Sandy Island, Mabouya, the Sisters Rocks, the reefs from Tyrrel Bay north and the Oyster Bed mangrove lagoon. Anchoring is banned at Sandy Island, and rangers collect mooring and dive fees.
Practical
Coordinate is Sandy Island, the MPA's focal point (approx; the park covers a wide area). Fees: mooring balls EC$25 (US$10) per day, collected by rangers by boat (Noonsite, Feb 2025; a 2018 cruiser also paid EC$25 a night; verify locally). Divers in the MPA pay a US$3.50-per-day 'MPA fee' surcharge through their dive shop (Dive Carriacou, 2025). Rules: no anchoring at Sandy Island, and take all rubbish away with you (rangers report yachts leaving bags on the island). Dive Carriacou says 15 of its 30-plus dive sites lie inside the MPA, including four wrecks and the Sisters Rocks. Check every mooring before trusting it in a blow. Get a receipt from the ranger.
