Salt Whistle Bay Anchorage

12° 38.9′ N · 61° 23.4′ W

A perfect half-moon of white sand and palms on Mayreau's north-west tip, separated from the windward surf by a narrow strip of beach - one of the most photographed anchorages in the Caribbean and a short hop to the Tobago Cays.

Practical

Position is Noonsite's Saltwhistle Bay waypoint. The bay is inside the Tobago Cays Marine Park: mooring and anchoring both cost EC$60 per night (TCMP fee schedule from Jan 1, 2023, confirmed by Doyle 2025), plus the park entrance fee of EC$15 per person (2023 schedule; verify locally); rangers collect, or pay online at tobagocays.org. Space is tight and charter catamarans fill the moorings, so arrive early; Noonsite places the anchorage in the north-eastern part of the bay. Holding is good in sand with some weed patches. Moorings have failed in the past; dive on or back down hard on any ball. Hurricane Beryl (July 2024) broke through the beach breakwater and flattened the beach bars; Doyle (2025) reports the breakwater repaired and good rebuilding progress. Theft: dinghies and outboards have been stolen from boats here - lift and lock at night. Boat boys will help you anchor for a tip; once one has 'claimed' you, others stay clear. Bring garbage away with you.
