Englishman's Bay Snorkel (north-shore reef)
11° 17.6′ N · 60° 40.3′ W · approximate
Rocks and coral line the north side of Englishman's Bay, sloping gently into deep, clear water: metre-long trumpetfish, schools of blue tang, angelfish, moray eels, octopus and stingrays on the sand.
Practical
Position is a point off the rocky north shore of the bay, about 120 m from the OpenStreetMap coastline (approx). A 2014 cruising blog anchored in sand with good holding, set a stern anchor to hold the bow into the swell, and snorkelled the rocks and coral along the north shore; noforeignland reviewers (March 2026 page) also rate the snorkelling and say to anchor in the deeper sand patches to keep off coral, and some report jellyfish. Snorkel Around the World places the gently sloping reef on the right as you face the sea from the beach. Wikipedia warns the heavy beach break limits snorkelling, so go on a calm day and swim from the boat or a dinghy anchored on sand rather than through the surf. No lifeguards. Within the Charlotteville clearance zone.
Best for
A wild, quiet reef swim straight off an anchored boat
Season
Calm days only; avoid north swell
