Castara Bay Beach (Big Bay)

11° 16.8′ N · 60° 41.8′ W

The working beach of a friendly fishing village, where fishermen haul seine nets by hand and visitors are welcome to help, with guesthouses, small restaurants, a waterfall up the valley and dirt-oven bread sold in the village.

Practical

Position is Big Bay beach (OpenStreetMap way 561304405). Little (Heavenly) Bay lies just north past a rocky outcrop and is better for swimming and snorkelling. Facilities: 'stores and stalls' and good village services (Discover T&T); ashore are Cascreole, the Boat House, Marguarite's and Caribbean Kitchen (see their entries). Land the dinghy at the north end, clear of the boats and nets in the middle of the beach. The Castara Fishermen's Fete is held each August. Within the Charlotteville clearance zone (its western limit).

Best for
