Castara Bay Anchorage

11° 16.9′ N · 60° 41.9′ W · approximate

A fishing village on the Caribbean coast with two beaches, Big Bay and Little (Heavenly) Bay, split by a rocky point. Rasta fishermen haul seine nets by hand, and the village has the only real tourist infrastructure on this coast.

Practical

Position is a point about 200 m off Big Bay, derived from OpenStreetMap beach and coastline positions (approx). Noforeignland reviewers (page updated March 2026) report strong holding in sand, swell that varies and can wrap in, and fishing nets and local moorings close to the beach that make anchoring awkward; anchor well clear of the seine-net area and expect to be asked to move if you are in the way of a haul. Castara Bay is the western limit of Charlotteville's clearance zone, which runs from Castara to Prince's Bay: cleared at Charlotteville, you can stop here; cleared at Scarborough, you need to transfer your papers (Noonsite). Ashore: guesthouses, small restaurants, a fruit and veg shop (Rainbow Fruits) and an ATM (OpenStreetMap); a lay-by on the approach road gives the postcard view. The Castara Fishermen's Fete is held each August.

A friendly fishing village and the gateway to the north coast
