Castara Little Bay Snorkel

11° 17.0′ N · 60° 42.0′ W · approximate

The small, sheltered Little (Heavenly) Bay at the north end of Castara has calm, clear water over rocks and reef, and the snorkelling continues around the point toward Emerald Bay. Manta rays are occasionally seen.

Practical

Position is a point off the rocky north end of Little Bay (OpenStreetMap beach way 561123561), about 70 m off the OSM coastline (approx). Snorkel Around the World recommends Little Bay rather than the main Big Bay, which is the working fishing beach; Responsible Travel says the best snorkelling is at the northern end and around into Emerald Bay. Swim or dinghy over from the Castara anchorage and keep well clear of seine nets being set or hauled off Big Bay. Wild Turtle Dive is based on Little Bay for gear and guided trips. Swell wraps in during north-swell events, which ruins visibility and makes the rocks dangerous.

Best for

A calm snorkel from the Castara anchorage
