Anse Chaudière Anchorage

14° 28.7′ N · 61° 4.8′ W

A quiet, wild cove south of the two Arlet bays with a rocky shore and no beach, sheltered by the surrounding hills: the free anchorage for boats that do not want a mooring at Grande Anse or the bourg.

Practical

ActiveCaptain: anchor in about 3 m, average to good holding over grass, sand and shell, good swinging room. Approach from W to NW. A 2023 review found it well sheltered and calm at night in 20 knots of wind outside. Boats swing a lot in the gusts, so leave plenty of room. Many fishing floats (mostly clear bottles), and fish traps in the middle of the bay, so keep a bow watch. Noonsite says boats may anchor here for free and dinghy round to Grande Anse. The nearest solid dinghy dock, with rings for locking, is at the bourg of Les Anses-d'Arlet to the north. Turtles are often seen.

Best for

A free, quiet night next to the Arlet bays
