The Bight Beach (Norman Island)

18° 19.1′ N · 64° 36.8′ W · approximate

The sand beach at the head of the Bight, fronted by Pirates Bight and its dinghy pier: the only real landing on Norman Island and the jumping-off point for the ridge trails.

Practical

Approximate position: between the OpenStreetMap Pirates Bight building (way 25839951) and its pier (way 25839945) at the east end of the Bight. Land at the Pirates Bight dinghy pier rather than running the dinghy onto the sand among swimmers. Pirates Bight is open 11 am to 9 pm daily from October 2026 to July 2027 and closed in its off-season (roughly August to September). Norman Island is private; the beach in front of the restaurant is where visitors gather, and the hiking paths start behind it. Day-trippers arrive on the Hannah Bay ferry, so it is busiest late morning to mid-afternoon. Coast Pilot 5: the Bight is steep-to and St John blocks any sea from the northwest, so the beach is usually calm.

Best for

A swim and a sundowner ashore from the Bight moorings

Season

Best October to July, when Pirates Bight is open
