Santa Monica Rock

18° 18.0′ N · 64° 38.2′ W · approximate

An offshore pinnacle south-west of Norman Island and a favourite advanced dive: ledges, overhangs and a small cave with big pelagics, reef sharks, turtles and great barracuda.

Practical

Approximate position computed from Coast Pilot 5: 'Santa Monica Rock, 0.7 mile southwest of Norman Island, is a small patch 1 3/4 fathoms deep' (about 10 ft), measured from the island's southwest extremity. It is also a navigation hazard on the western approach to Flanagan Passage (see that passage). Depth 20 to 100 ft (Blue Water Divers); advanced, divable only on calm days (Sail Caribbean Divers). Exposed to the open Caribbean; go with a dive operator.
