18° 22.3′ N · 64° 31.8′ W · approximate
The salt ponds that gave the island its name and the remains of a settlement of twenty-odd households, now down to a few derelict houses; residents traditionally paid a symbolic rent of one pound of salt a year to the Crown.
Practical
Approximate position: the centroid of the larger salt pond in OpenStreetMap (way 25595443), just behind the north-shore beach; the derelict houses are not mapped. Wikipedia: population three or fewer since at least 1980; the annual salt rent is delivered to the Governor, and Governor John Duncan revived the tradition, presenting a pound of salt to Queen Elizabeth II in March 2015. There is no official trail but it is easy to find your way (Yacht Warriors). Wear shoes, bring water, and respect any remaining private property.
