Salt Island Bay Beach
18° 22.4′ N · 64° 31.9′ W · approximate
Salt Island's main beach on the north shore, backed by the old salt ponds and the island's few derelict houses: a quiet landing for a sunset barbecue and the short walk to the Rhone graves.
Practical
Approximate position: centroid of the north-shore beach in OpenStreetMap (way 25595202), directly in front of the salt ponds; the beach's name on charts was not verified. Yacht Warriors (2024) recommends going ashore from the Salt Pond Bay anchorage for a barbecue and unobstructed sunset views. Wikipedia: the Rhone mass grave is a short walk from the main beach, and the island has had three or fewer residents since 1980. No facilities, water or trash collection: take everything back to the boat. Coast Pilot 5 notes a rock awash close off the island's northeast end. Avoid landing in northerly winter swell.
Best for
A self-sufficient beach barbecue near the Rhone
Season
Settled weather; avoid in northerly swell
