Snorkel· Cooper Island· Virgin Islands (BVI, USVI and Spanish Virgins)
Vanishing Rock (Cooper Island)
18° 22.7′ N · 64° 31.0′ W · approximate
A pinnacle that just breaks the surface and vanishes again between Salt and Cooper islands, with one of the BVI's largest stands of pillar coral, eels and squid.
Practical
Approximate position: Dive BVI calls it Vanishing Rocks / Dry Rocks West and Sail Caribbean Divers places it at Salt Island; Coast Pilot 5 describes rocks and an islet off Cooper Island constricting the Salt-Cooper passage. The point is set in that gap near Cistern Rock; verify visually. Depth 25 to 50 ft, beginner to intermediate; current can be strong, so check before getting in. Also a hazard for boats cutting between Salt and Cooper.
Best for
Colourful pillar coral on a calm day
