Cistern Point (Cooper Island)

18° 22.8′ N · 64° 30.9′ W · approximate

Cooper Island's southwest point, a boulder-and-canyon reef with small caves and overhangs where snorkellers find turtles, eels, nurse sharks and tarpon.

Practical

Approximate position: off the point opposite Cistern Rock (OpenStreetMap islet) on Cooper's west shore, about 0.4 nm south of the mooring field. Dinghy from Manchioneel Bay. Depth 20 to 50 ft; beginner dive and snorkel; current builds the deeper you go, so stay along the shoreline (Sail Caribbean Divers, Dive BVI). The site takes its name from cistern-like holes in the reef. The Moorings recommends it for snorkelling and turtle watching.
