Salt Island Bay Moorings

18° 22.5′ N · 64° 31.9′ W · approximate

The anchorage off Salt Island's north shore, a quiet overnight alternative to the Rhone's day-only moorings, with a beach for a sunset barbecue and the old salt ponds ashore.

Practical

Approximate position: about 150 m off the north-facing beach in front of the salt ponds (OpenStreetMap beach way 25595202 and pond ways 25595366 and 25595443), which is where the bay's alternative name Salt Pond Bay points; earlier versions of this entry placed it off the hilly northeast lobe. Verify on your chartplotter. Yacht Warriors (2024) calls it Salt Pond Bay and recommends it as a secluded anchorage on the north side. Cooper Island Beach Club also suggests anchoring at Salt Island when its own field is full. Coast Pilot 5: a rock awash lies close off Salt Island's northeast end. Open to northerly swell in winter. No facilities or water: be self-sufficient and take your trash with you.

Best for

A self-sufficient quiet night near the Rhone

Season
