Painted Walls (Dead Chest)
18° 21.8′ N · 64° 33.6′ W · approximate
Underwater canyons off Dead Chest whose walls are splashed with sponges and soft and hard corals like an artist's palette, ending in an archway you can swim through on a calm day.
Practical
Approximate position: off the rocky southeast end of Dead Chest (Coast Pilot: rocks run about 0.2 mile south from the east end); operators give no coordinates, so use the NPT dive moorings. Depth about 30 to 50 ft (Blue Water Divers); beginner dive (Sail Caribbean Divers), take a torch; nurse sharks, barracuda and lobster. Weather permitting only: the site is exposed and surge in the canyons can be strong. Inside the Rhone Marine Park: no anchoring or fishing.
Best for
Colourful canyons and a swim-through arch
