Dead Chest Island National Park

18° 21.9′ N · 64° 33.8′ W

A treeless, waterless 200 ft islet half a mile off Peter Island's Deadman's Bay, wrapped into the RMS Rhone Marine Park and tied by legend to Blackbeard and 'fifteen men on a dead man's chest'.

Practical

Position from Wikipedia. The National Parks Trust says the Rhone Marine Park extends west to include Dead Chest; within the Marine Park anchoring and fishing are prohibited and boats must use NPT moorings with a permit (day use, 90 minutes). Coast Pilot 5: a group of rocks extends about 0.2 mile south from its east end, and a 4 1/2-fathom patch lies about 0.7 mile northwest. Wikipedia calls the Blackbeard marooning tale 'almost certainly fakelore' (Stevenson took the name from Charles Kingsley's 1871 list of Virgin Islands names); journalist Quentin van Marle lived alone here for 31 days in 1994. No landing facilities; exposed sites, visit in settled weather.
