Dive· Great Tobago· Virgin Islands (BVI, USVI and Spanish Virgins)
Mercurius Rock (Tobagos)
18° 27.2′ N · 64° 48.8′ W · approximate
An isolated seamount in open water between Great Tobago and Jost Van Dyke, covered by about 7 ft, with soft corals, caves and caverns, big groupers, hogfish, lobsters and nurse sharks.
Practical
Position is approximate, derived from Coast Pilot 5: '0.8 mile east of the north end of Tobago Island', small, steep-to and covered 7 feet; the only danger between Tobago and Jost Van Dyke. A real hazard to yachts: give it a wide berth and favor the east side of the passage. JVD Scuba calls it one of the hardest BVI sites to find, done only in good wind and sea conditions; experienced divers only (NPT). Inside the Tobagos protected area.
Best for
Advanced guided dive; a hazard to avoid under sail
