Hurricane season (Culebra)

18° 18.1′ N · 65° 17.0′ W · approximate

Culebra sits squarely in the Atlantic hurricane belt; Ensenada Honda is the local storm refuge, and many boats leave the Spanish Virgins or haul out on the main island for the peak months.

Practical

Pinned at Ensenada Honda. Coast Pilot 5 (ch. 13): tropical cyclone season June through November, most active August to the first half of October; most storms form east of the Lesser Antilles and move west or northwest; Hurricane Georges (September 1998) crossed Puerto Rico directly. Thunderstorms most likely May to November. Monitor the National Hurricane Center and NOAA weather; check your insurance's named-storm and latitude clauses. Haul-out yards are on the main island (Fajardo/Puerto del Rey area, see the Vieques–Fajardo subregion).
